Mastering the Music Business, the indie musicians’ conference, announces its second edition

The first music business conference ever organized in Romania has reached its second edition, and will be held in Bucharest on July 10 & 11, 2017. Mastering The Music Business is dedicated first and foremost to independent musicians, but also to all indie professionals in the music business: talent and business managers, booking agents, PR agents, tour managers etc.

The first Mastering The Music Business edition was held on February 16/17, 2016 and it was a success. For the first time in Romania, musicians, music business professionals and people from neighboring industries have gathered under the same roof to discuss mutual issues. The conference was attended by over 100 registered participants, 3 international speakers and 12 Romanian speakers – either artists (Tataee/BUG Mafia and Cornel Ilie/Vunk), lawyers, talent managers, people specialized in copyright administration, online distribution, radio, branding, PR and marketing as well as advertising professionals.

In the same time with the conference, a 16-hour-long-marathon of interviews with speakers, participants, bloggers and other music industry professionals was conducted by members of Kooperativa 2.0 social media agency under the title Chivas Sound of Business and was broadcasted live, online. Interviews can still be watched here.

Consequently, a second edition of this conference will be held in Bucharest on July 10 & 11 and will be co-organized and hosted by CULTURADATANational Institute For Cultural Research and Education.

This year’s edition will continue to present and debate topics of interest for independent musicians – from extended music monetizing methods to online marketing, management and promotion strategies. Indie musicians that have reached success, from all music genres, will be present and will share their experiences. Along with them, music industry specialists from Romania and abroad will bring the most recent information about new technologies and trends in front of the audience.

There are also many new features with this year’s edition: participants will have many opportunities to meet and relate with professionals from the local and international music industry through mentorship and networking sessions.

A whole series of workshops will be organized on various topics: how to self-produce an album, how to manage your social media presence, how to pitch your music to the radio stations, how to monetize your music online, how to put together a marketing plan, blogging for musicians etc

Among the first names that have confirmed their presence as speakers there are many succesful Romanian artists: Nicu Alifantis, Damian Draghici, Dan Byron, Alexandra Usurelu, Bobby Stoica, Marius Matache. The conference MC will be Dan Fintescu.

The opening keynote will be held by Smiley, probably one of the most successful indie musicians in Romania, music industry entrepreneur and one of the most loved Romanian artists of all times.

Each of both conference days will end with a series of showcases featuring Romanian and international bands/musicians. They will have the opportunity to present themselves in front of an audience made of local and international professionals as well as normal public. More about submitting procedures and acceptance of showcase requests to follow.

With the current edition, Mastering The Music Business is firmly positioning itself as a professional event for independent musicians, whose main objective is to bring them useful and necessary information about building their careers. A secondary objective, but as important, is to create a bigger and stronger community of independent professionals and entrepreneurs inside the music industry, to always keep up with the latest trends, technologies and means to promote and monetize music.

Mastering The Music Business is a conference initiated and organized by Star Management and Star Education Association in partnership with Overground Music and Agentia de Vise. Co-organizer: Culturadata – National Institute For Cultural Research and Education.
