MMB ANNIVERSARY EDITION – #5
The idea for this short history about MMB came to me recently as I saw in my FB Memories a post from 4 years ago when I started looking for a location for what was supposed to become the first music business conference ever organized in Romania – Mastering The Music Business.
The first edition was held on February 16/17, 2016 and now I can reveal that it was organized to test the market, to see what kind of feedback I would get from my colleagues (and not only) from the industry.
In a nutshell, #MMB1 was:
Only 3 international speakers, but one of them was very important: Thorsten Freese, International Distribution Manager for one of the biggest digital music distributors in the world – Believe Digital (which got even bigger since).
One of the highlights of that edition was the 16 hours interviews marathon organised and impecably executed by the team of Kooperativa 2.0
The feedback I got from the attendees has encouraged me to continue so I started thinking about the next edition. But the most important moment was when I got a phone call from Carina Sava (Agentia de Vise) inviting me to a meeting with Codrut, Iulia and Cosmin from Overground Music. They had realized Romania needed a music business conference and they wanted to be part of MMB. I immediately said yes and that’s how the extended organizing team was born.
Together with my new
It was the same year that we have organized the first ever showcase festival in Romania. The second edition has also brought a new partner to the core organizing team – Dan Fintescu, who functioned impeccably as a MC and wanted to join us, for better and for worse. It was the first edition “for worse” financially speaking, but we did not quit. We went on with organizing the third edition!
#MMB2018 was the first one getting closer, as
The trust of our local industry was growing, relevant record labels joined us, European trade organizations started paying attention to the Romanian music market. It was the starting point for the creation of the Romanian Association of Indie Labels – INDIERO (affiliated to IMPALA and WIN), the Romanian Association of Music Managers (MMF Romania, affiliated to the IMMF) and the Romanian Chapter of the Women In Music Association – all of them officially announced in the presence of representatives of IMPALA, IMMMF and WIM during the 4th MMB edition that took place early this year.
Mastering The Music Business, the first international conference (and the only one, during the first two editions) dedicated to the Romanian music industry is now getting ready for its fifth edition which will take place during March 17 to 19, 2020. The standard is high, but the wonderful feedback we got this year not only has filled us with joy, but also has set higher objectives for next year.
Tickets are on sale and already outnumbered the quantity we sold in the same period of last year. International speakers and attendees are keen to come back, new ones are writing to us with very interesting proposals for discussion topics, presentations
During the first 4 editions we got precious (and from some of them continuous) support from many sponsors that we would like to thank once again: UniCredit Bank, OMV, Aqua Carpatica, Domeniile Sâmburesti, ASUS, Ciuc, IQOS, Telekom, Stalinskaya, .Calif, Simbio, DHM, Eco Sim Events, PepsiCo, J&B, Grolsch, Stage Expert, AV Store, Club Expirat, REEA, Schuster AV, Almdudler etc.
For a much clearer view on the evolution of #MMB, you can watch the conference after movies here.
Last, but not least, a photo of the core organizing team that we took a while ago but did not have the chance to use. 🙂 Since last year we are also together in an NGO that became the main organizing entity for MMB, called RAW Music.
We are waiting for you at MMBs fifth edition. Details on how you can participate, conference schedule and showcase festival line-up will be posted, as usual. Step by step on MMBs FB page and on www.masteringthemusicbusiness.ro.
See you in 2020!
