“Errington is on a mission to not just change the perception of the industry but to professionalise those within it.”
Matt Errington is the Director of SMB: The School of Music Business. His early years as a music journalist, at a number of notable international publications, built him a reputation as an uncompromising defender of music, artists and the industry in which they operate. This passion for the business of music, and his vision of how artists could successfully navigate, lead and benefit from, the rapidly changing industry, led him to a successful music management and consultancy career. He has developed artists from formation through to signing major recording and publishing contracts, critical acclaim, many millions of streams, significant chart sales and headline tours across the world.
In 2015 he won the ‘MEGS Award’ (Music Export For Growth Scheme) from The BPI and UK Trade and Investment, for his work in developing UK artists overseas. In 2018 he was appointed Expert Board Member for Jump: The European Music Market Accelerator, co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union. Jump provides a framework for music professionals to develop innovative business models whilst encouraging the sector to work on a transnational level. Until 2022, he we will be supporting some of the most pioneering new music businesses in the world. A regular speaker at industry conferences, conventions, and in the media, Matt remains as forward thinking and as enthusiastic about the music business, as ever.
In 2016, Matt and his business partner, Dan Sayer, a talented musician, artist manager and entrepreneur, established SMB: The School of Music Business, in central London; inspiring, empowering and educating the professionals of tomorrow. Since then they have been disrupting the status quo of music business education in the UK, whilst addressing the needs of a modern music industry. Their courses, all taught by current and renowned music business professionals, provide the latest, most relevant skills, delivered with the passion and energy that the institution has become known for.
